Clemens Heitzinger initiated together with Stefan Woltran CAIML in 2021 and was since then co-director of the Center for Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning (CAIML), aiming to bundle and strengthen research activities in Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning both in their foundations and applications and to establish TU Wien as a center of excellence for Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning.

Recently Clemens Heitzinger has started his new position as Professor for Data-Driven Mathematical Modeling at TU Berlin and as Head of Research Group 7 at the Weierstraß Institute (WIAS) in Berlin Mitte and therefore he stepped down from all his roles at CAIML.

Clemens Heitzinger received both his master’s degree (Dipl.-Ing.) in applied mathematics and his PhD degree (Dr. techn.) in technical sciences with highest honors from TU Wien. He was a visiting researcher in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics at Arizona State University, a research associate in the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Purdue University, and a senior research associate in the Department of Applied Mathematics and Theoretical Physics (DAMTP) at the University of Cambridge. In 2015, he returned to TU Wien as an Associate Professor in the Department of Mathematics and Geoinformation after having been offered a tenured position at Arizona State University. He is also an Adjunct Professor in the School of Mathematical and Statistical Sciences at Arizona State University. He was awarded the START Prize, Austria’s most prestigious award for young scientists, by the Austrian Science Fund (FWF) in 2013.

“Thank you Clemens! Thank you for all your tremendous work, for initiating and laying the foundation of CAIML. All the best for Berlin!”.
