CAIML PhD Candidates Florentina Voboril and Alexander Beiser Attend Inaugural BilAI Summer School in Klagenfurt
From 7-11 July 2025, CAIML PhD students Florentina Voboril and Alexander Beiser joined peers from across Austria at the first BilAI Summer School, strengthening the national AI network and deepening their expertise in neurosymbolic methods.

The Bilateral AI Cluster of Excellence (BilAI) is a new Austria‑wide initiative that unites the country’s six leading AI universities and research institutes to advance artificial intelligence from narrow, specialised uses to broad, human‑centric applications. BilAI’s inaugural summer school took place in Klagenfurt from 7–11 July 2025, welcoming early‑stage researchers for a week of lectures, hands‑on workshops and community building. Among the participants were CAIML PhD candidates Florentina Voboril and Alexander Beiser, who spent the week exchanging ideas with fellow scholars and refining their research methodologies.
A highlight of the programme was a series of workshops on neurosymbolic AI. Participants collaborated on translating natural‑language problem statements into formal representations with the help of large language models, and then solving them using symbolic reasoning tools—an exercise that perfectly embodied BilAI’s mission of merging symbolic and subsymbolic approaches.
